Inspired: The Delicious Monster Collection
A deeper look into how we felt so inspired by the Monstera Deliciosa plant that we had to create an entire jewellery collection based on the plant’s enigmatic looks.
Why did we fall in love with the Monstera Deliciosa?
So many reasons! The Monstera Deliciosa is a strong climbing plant. Some plants can reach a magnificent height of over 20 metres when growing natively like it does in Panama, Mexico and Southeast Asia. This beautiful plant shares our love for tropical climates and thrives in humid, hot weather. Its adult leaves grow up to a metre in size. Deliciosa alludes to the plant’s tasty fruit which, like the rest of the plant, can grow to immense sizes. The Monstera Deliciosa bears fruit reminiscent of banana and pineapple and is commonly enjoyed in its tropical native homes. The Monstera is a plant lover’s statement piece. We appreciate its larger than life magnitude and hope to mimic its confidence in our own lives.
I own a small garden of my own Monsteras and fell in love with its tropical and intricate design. As an artist I am always inspired by my surroundings and my Monsteras welcome me home everyday. Being a plant lover I felt like this would be the kind of jewellery I would love to own, myself and sure enough I wear my Delicious Monster collection around Cape Town all the time.
What does the Monstera Represent?
Symbolically, the Monstera is a Chinese emblem of long life and honouring the elders. The plant itself is a lover of light while still being a hardy houseplant. Able to thrive in dim conditions as well as sun-kissed patches.
Our jewellery inspired by this gracious houseplant is made for plant lovers and those who are close with their parents and grandparents. Like the plant itself, our most popular Delicious Monster pieces feature a large, statement pendant or drop.
